Cars and Gulfies. A book by a gulf-return back during the pandemic.

The book (titled Imprint) is a collection of photographs, imprints of tire tracks on acetate along with an anecdote from my childhood. The photographs are from my family album, from the late 80’s and early/mid 90’s in Dubai and Sharjah - specifically ones where you can see our family car in the frame.

Through making this photo book, I began thinking about the relationship diasporic families living in this region had with their cars (if they had the luxury of having access to one) during that time period. These cars were extensively borrowed, re-sold between extended family members, driven to Mamzar for family picnics during Eid and a representation of the aspiration they held as economic migrants in the Gulf.
